Global market: Conflicting pressures in Brazil

Data from the International Pepper Community (IPC) shows that world pepper prices are generally stable, although there are mixed fluctuations among producing countries. In Indonesia, Lampung black pepper is listed at US$6,812/ton, while Muntok white pepper is at US$9,179/ton. Meanwhile, Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper decreased by 1.23%, to US$6,000/ton, due to pressure from weakening short-term demand.

In Vietnam, the export price of black pepper (500 g/l) is currently trading around US$6,500/ton, while the 550 g/l variety is priced at US$6,700/ton. The export price of white pepper remains stable at US$9,250/ton, continuing to support the domestic market anchored in the highlands.

Supply outlook for the 2025-2026 crop year

Despite the temporary slowdown due to the year-end holidays, the medium- and long-term outlook for the pepper market still faces the risk of supply shortages. The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association forecasts that many major producing countries such as Brazil, Indonesia, India, and Vietnam are all at risk of declining production.

In Vietnam, the world's largest pepper exporter, production is expected to decrease by approximately 5-7% compared to normal levels. Unfavorable weather conditions at the end of 2025, along with the reduction in previously planted area, are directly impacting yields. Analysts predict that pepper prices are likely to remain high as import demand picks up again at the beginning of next year.
