Pepper Market on July 2, 2025:

Continuously increasing, pepper price almost returns to 150,000 VND/kg

Pepper prices today  (July 2) continued to increase sharply by 3,000 - 4,000 VND, reaching 146,000 - 147,000 VND/kg. Pepper hoarding by farmers and speculators occurred due to predictions that prices would increase sharply in the near future, contributing to a reduction in immediate supply in the market.

In the world market

At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) adjusted the listed price of Indonesian black pepper to 7,529 USD/ton, an increase of 18 USD/ton compared to the previous trading session.

Similarly, the price of Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 also increased sharply by 200 USD/ton, to 6,050 USD/ton.

Meanwhile, ASTA black pepper prices remained stable at $9,000/ton, unchanged from the previous session.  Vietnam’s black pepper  export  prices fluctuated between $6,240 and $6,370/ton for 500 g/l and 550 g/l black pepper.

Update pepper information

According to the Import-Export  Department  (Ministry of Industry and Trade), pepper prices have shown signs of a slight recovery since the end of June as farmers and speculators are still holding onto their goods and are not in a hurry to sell them, with the expectation that prices will recover better in the third and fourth quarters of this year.

This hoarding occurs in anticipation of a sharp increase in prices in the coming period, contributing to a reduction in immediate supply in the market.

In the world market, the increase in the US dollar and the escalation of armed conflicts in many regions have made many investors more cautious. Along with that, the increase in logistics costs also contributed to short-term pressure on pepper prices.

In the medium and long term, pepper supply from Brazil and Indonesia will impact the market. In Indonesia, the harvest is expected to start in July. Meanwhile, after the harvest in the eastern provinces, the next harvest in Espirito Santo and Para in Brazil will start in the middle of this year.

According to preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, in the first 5 months of the year, Vietnam mainly exported black pepper, accounting for 67.7% of the total volume and 64.4% of the total value, reaching 67.69 thousand tons, worth 444.76 million USD, down 15.6% in volume, but up 36.8% in value compared to the same period in 2024.

In addition, exports of ground white pepper also decreased by 3.8% in volume. In contrast, exports of ground black pepper and white pepper in the five months increased by 1.9% and 6.0% in volume, respectively, over the same period.

In terms of value, Vietnam's pepper export price increased sharply in the first 5 months of the year, causing the export value of all types of pepper from Vietnam to increase sharply compared to the same period in 2024. Of which, the export value of ground white pepper increased the most, up 51.8% over the same period in 2024.

Although Vietnam's pepper export value has increased, the growth rate has slowed down in recent months as pepper export prices have slowed down, even decreasing in April and May compared to the previous month.

Black pepper is the most exported pepper variety of Vietnam, therefore, fluctuations in the volume or export price of this variety will also affect the export situation of pepper products in general.

The average export price of Vietnam's black pepper, after peaking in March 2025 at US$6,685/ton, decreased again in April and May, down 0.6% and 2.7% respectively compared to the previous month.

In the first 5 months of the year, the average export price of Vietnam's black pepper reached 6,570 USD/ton, an increase of 62.1% over the same period in 2024.
