Re: Black pepper market has been flat

Well am an importer of Black Pepper in Pakistan.
In the last day or two market for black pepper has suppenly stopped and has reversed a lot.
Rumors effect a lot in a speculative market.
10 days back it looked that the vietnam prices might reach usd4400 or usd4500/pmt for 500gl,as there was no offer from any other country.
But suddenly from no where Malaysia is offering stock,Srilanka is offering,Indonesia is also offering.
And now no buyers.
The way i look at the current situation, Vietnam 2007 crop is damaged, maximum damage could be up to 20%.In the past Vietnam has been exporting like 120,000mt per year.Less 20% still 100,000mt of crop.
And till now the export demand has been very less due to the higher prices.
I ve heard that till now only 25000mt or more have been exported in this quantity last year carry over is also included.
May almost finished, july Brazil crops starts.
So i think that vietnam will have to lowers its prices.

Favourable conditions lift chances of normal pepper output

The weather, including the onset of monsoon has so far been conducive for the pepper crop in the state, according to the scientists at the Kozhikode based Indian Institute of Spices Research.
The summer showers, essential for spike initiation was favourable and a timely and normal monsoon could lead to normal production. Pepper is a rain fed crop grown under tropical humid climate in India with the quantum and distribution of rainfall determining the annual yield of the crop
The pepper farming areas of the state like Wayanad and Idukki have received the essential pre-monsoon showers and the timely monsoon augurs well for the crop, he said. Moderate stress (dry period) during February-March was also favourable for good spiking. It is essential that once spike initiation is set, there should not be any dry spell until berry maturity, Kandiannan added.

“Once monsoon sets, spike initiation in black pepper crop could be seen along with the emergence of new leaf on lateral branch within a week. It takes 6 to 8 months for maturity depending on variety, altitudes, and other crop management practices,” he said. However, the neglect of the pepper vines for the last three-four years could be a major factor in the final production.

IS THIS A ALARMING SITUATION

IT HAS BEEN MUCH MORE TALKED ABOUT THE SHORTAGE OF PEPPER WORLDWIDE...BUT IN THE LAST FEW DAYS AFTER A SHARP CORRECTION IN THE MARKETS, THERE ARE NO BUYERS.

THERE HAD BEEN MUCH MORE TALK ABOUT THE DROP IN PRODUCTION OF VIETNAM........STILL BUYERS ARE AWAY.....

There are reports from Indonesia that the crop output will be better this time and it might touch 20,000 tonnes. But there is no clear indication from Brazil, which has an average annual production of 35,000-37,000 tonnes.

EVERYONE IS SAYING THAT THIS IS THE RIGHT TIME TO BUY PEPPER...... BUT NO EXPORT DEMAND NO BUYERS ......

IF NOW THE EXPORT DOES NOT PICK UP IT IS A HIGHLY ALARMING SITUATION FOR PEPPER AS NOW THIS HAS BECAME A BUYERS MARKET WHO ARE NO NOWHERE
