US market reduces pepper imports from Vietnam

In the world market
At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed the price of Indonesian black pepper at 7,539 USD/ton, a slight decrease of 8 USD/ton compared to the previous trading session.
In other producing countries, trading prices were generally unchanged. Currently, Malaysian ASTA black pepper is quoted at USD 8,900/ton, while Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper is at USD 6,250/ton.
Vietnam's black pepper export price ranges from 6,440 - 6,570 USD/ton for 500 g/l and 550 g/l black pepper.

At the same time of survey, the price of Indonesian Muntok white pepper decreased by 11 USD/ton, down to 10,184 USD/ton.
Meanwhile, Vietnam's white pepper exports and Malaysia's ASTA white pepper remained stable at US$9,150/ton and US$11,750/ton.

Update pepper information
The Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA) cited data from the International Trade Center (ITC) saying that in May 2025, US pepper imports reached 8,050 tons, up sharply by 21.5% compared to the previous month, but down 16.3% compared to May 2024.
The US imported pepper mainly from Vietnam, accounting for 76.6%, reaching 6,170 tons, followed by India: 737 tons, Indonesia: 604 tons and Brazil: 301 tons.
In the first 5 months of the year, the total amount of pepper imported by the US reached 36,260 tons, down 3.3% over the same period last year and up 29.1% over the same period in 2023.
Regarding supply, the US reduced pepper imports from Vietnam but increased purchases from other markets.
Specifically, Vietnam is still the largest pepper supplier to the US in the first 5 months of the year with a volume of 23,348 tons, accounting for 64.4% of the market share, but compared to the same period last year, it decreased by 17.8%.
In contrast, US imports from the next market were Indonesia, reaching 5,975 tons, up 90.3%, accounting for 16.5% of the market share; India: 3,808 tons, up 20.1%, accounting for 10.5% of the market share and Brazil: 1,722 tons, up 14.9%, accounting for 4.7% of the import market share.
Regarding reciprocal tariffs, on July 9, President Donald Trump announced that the US will impose a 50% tariff on imports from Brazil starting August 1. Previously, the US also announced that the tariff on Indonesia will be 32%.
