Domestic pepper prices on November 24 remained at VND148,000/kg. Cumulative exports by mid-November reached over USD1.44 billion, surpassing the record set in 2016.
Domestic pepper prices remain stable
According to a survey on November 24, pepper prices in key domestic growing areas remained unchanged, ranging from 146,500 to 148,000 VND/kg. The highest prices were recorded in Dak Lak and Dak Nong .
| Province/City | Price (VND/kg) |
|---|---|
| Dak Lak | 148,000 |
| Dak Nong | 148,000 |
| Gia Lai | 147,000 |
| Binh Phuoc | 146,500 |
| Ba Ria – Vung Tau | 146,500 |
Last week, pepper prices increased by VND2,500/kg due to concerns about the impact of floods on production and the positive impact of US tariff reduction.
Pepper exports set historic record
According to data from the Customs Department, in the first half of November, Vietnam exported 8,203 tons of pepper, earning nearly 52.85 million USD. Accumulated to November 15, the total export volume reached about 213,432 tons with a value of more than 1.44 billion USD.

This figure has officially surpassed the record of 1.43 billion USD of the whole year 2016, setting a new milestone for the Vietnamese pepper industry.
Market analysis and forecasting
Pepper industry expert Hoang Phuoc Binh said that export value could continue to increase sharply due to high selling prices. He said that the "black gold" product is in its golden age due to a decrease in supply while international demand is high.
The reason for the decline in supply is believed to be due to the fact that pepper prices were too low in previous years, causing many farmers to switch to growing crops with higher economic value such as coffee and durian. According to Mr. Binh, the current price increase cycle could last more than 10 years and domestic pepper prices are likely to reach 200,000 VND/kg next year.

Pepper prices on the world market
According to data from the International Pepper Association (IPC), pepper export prices of various countries also recorded many fluctuations:
- Black Pepper: Indonesia traded at $7,104/ton, Brazil (ASTA 570) at $6,175/ton, and Malaysia at $9,200/ton. In Vietnam, prices of 500g/l and 550g/l black pepper remained at $6,400-$6,600/ton.
- White Pepper: The price of Indonesian Muntok white pepper is 9,673 USD/ton. Meanwhile, Malaysia and Vietnam quoted prices of 12,300 USD/ton and 9,050 USD/ton respectively.
The recent prolonged floods in the Central Highlands region are also a factor affecting production. According to statistics from the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), the preliminary economic damage is estimated at more than VND13,078 billion, including hundreds of hectares of crops affected.
