pepper and 479 tons of white pepper, with a total import turnover of
36.7 million USD. Compared to the previous month, the import volume
increased by 15.1% and the turnover increased by 27.2%.
Notably, the import volume this month is also close to the highest import record ever in May 2021 at 5,747 tons.
In
terms of supply, Brazil continues to be the main pepper supplier to
Vietnam, accounting for 66.7% of total imports with 3,792 tons, up 23.9%
over the previous month. Cambodia follows with 1,171 tons, up 127.8%.
Olam
was the largest importer in the month, reaching 2,148 tons, up 46.2%
compared to March and accounting for 37.8% of the import market share.
In
the first 4 months of 2025, Vietnam imported 15,374 tons of pepper of
all kinds, of which black pepper reached 11,750 tons and white pepper
reached 3,624 tons, with a total import turnover of 88.3 million USD,
compared to the same period in 2024, the import volume increased by
25.3%, while the turnover increased by 104.8%.
In
the first 4 months of the year, Vietnam mainly imported pepper from
Brazil: 8,155 tons, up 33.1%, Indonesia: 4,288 tons, up 207.8% and
Cambodia: 1,906 tons, down 49.3%.
Olam
is the largest importer with 4,094 tons, down 20.7% over the same
period and accounting for 26.6% of the import market share. Next are the
following enterprises: Tran Chau: 1,604 tons, up 6.9%; Phuc Thinh:
1,128 tons, up 328.9%...
Previously, VPSA said that Vietnam's
pepper harvest is expected to last until the end of April 2025. Unlike
previous years, when pepper was harvested, prices decreased due to
abundant supply. However, domestic pepper prices have always been around
150,000 VND/kg since the beginning of the year because farmers are
selling sparingly. Some farmers are also harvesting durian and coffee, which are getting good prices, so they are not under financial pressure to sell.
Information
about the US's reciprocal tax caused pepper prices to drop sharply in
early April, but soon after that they increased back to the old level,
helping people feel secure in production.
News, forecast for pepper price tomorrow May 8, 2025: Domestic pepper price continues to decrease

adjustment. Similarly, in Binh Phuoc and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, pepper

Pepper price today May 7, 2025 in Dak Lak and Dak Nong reached the highest level
The downward trend in pepper prices today, May 7, 2025, may be
influenced by supply pressure or adjustments in demand from the export
market. Although there are no specific export figures for May 2025,
according to the general trend, Vietnam is still one of the world's
leading pepper exporting countries. The decline in domestic prices may
reflect the cautious sentiment of the market in the face of fluctuations
in supply or international trade policies.
In general, pepper
prices today, May 7, 2025, in major production areas in Vietnam show a
slight adjustment period, but remain relatively stable compared to
previous periods. Farmers in key pepper growing areas such as Dak Lak,
Dak Nong, or Ba Ria - Vung Tau continue to closely monitor market
developments, especially factors related to weather, crops in other
major producing countries such as Indonesia, and global trade policies.
With an important role in the world pepper market, the pepper price
trend today, May 7, 2025 not only affects farmers' income but also
shapes Vietnam's export strategy in the coming time.

Updated from the International Pepper Community (IPC), pepper prices
today, May 7, 2025, on the world market showed remarkable stability,
maintaining a relatively high price level amid continued tightening of
global supply. Specifically, the price of Indonesian Lampung black
pepper reached 7,372 USD/ton, while Muntok white pepper recorded 9,985
USD/ton, both unchanged from the previous trading session. In Malaysia,
ASTA black pepper was stable at 9,200 USD/ton, while ASTA white pepper
remained at 11,900 USD/ton, reflecting stability in the regional market.
Brazil also kept the price of ASTA 570 black pepper at 6,800 USD/ton,
showing consensus in price trends in major producing countries.
In Vietnam, pepper prices today, May 7, 2025, recorded stability with
black pepper 500 g/l and 550 g/l reaching 6,700 and 6,800 USD/ton,
respectively, while ASTA white pepper remained at 9,700 USD/ton.
Although there were no price fluctuations, the global market is facing
the fourth consecutive year of limited supply, due to the impact of
climate change, aging pepper trees, and the trend of switching to
higher-profit crops such as coffee or durian in major producing
countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia and Brazil. Although it is in the
harvest season, the amount of pepper brought to the market by farmers is
still quite small, partly due to the psychology of hoarding goods
waiting for better prices, combined with reduced output due to
unfavorable weather.
Demand from major export markets such as the
US, China and the EU remains stable, with China showing signs of
returning to strong purchasing after a period of stagnation, creating
positive support for pepper prices today, May 7, 2025. However, the
domestic market was under pressure last April, when pepper prices
dropped sharply by VND 4,000 - 5,000/kg due to the new tax policy from
the US, limiting exports to this market and affecting the purchasing
power of export enterprises. However, compared to the same period last
year, pepper prices today, May 7, 2025, are still 57 - 59% higher,
exceeding the average of the last 5 years, bringing optimism to pepper
growers if they have a reasonable sales strategy.
In general,
pepper prices today, May 7, 2025, on the world market show stability,
but there are potential challenges from limited supply and global
economic factors. Pepper growers in Vietnam and other countries need to
continue to closely monitor market developments, especially trade
policies and demand from major markets, to take advantage of
opportunities from the current price level.
News, forecast of pepper price tomorrow May 8, 2025 continues the downward trend in the domestic market
Tomorrow, May 8, 2025, pepper prices are forecast to decrease slightly
or remain stable. According to market analysts, some provinces such as
Binh Phuoc and Gia Lai may see pepper prices decrease due to technical
selling pressure. However, in general, the market will gradually
stabilize within a narrow price range.
Currently, pepper supply
remains limited, while demand shows no signs of decreasing. This could
help pepper prices remain between VND153,000 and VND155,000 per kilogram
in the next few days.
In the world market, pepper prices also
tend to decrease slightly. According to information from the
International Pepper Community (IPC), black pepper prices in Malaysia
have decreased by 100 USD/ton compared to recent trading sessions.
Specifically, the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper is currently
at 7,372 USD/ton, while the price of Muntok white pepper is purchased at
9,985 USD/ton.
The Malaysian market remained stable, with ASTA
black pepper prices at $9,200/ton and ASTA white pepper prices at
$11,900/ton. In Brazil, the purchase price also did not fluctuate much,
reaching around $6,800/ton.
In Vietnam, the export price of black
pepper fluctuates at 6,700 USD/ton for 500 g/l and 6,800 USD/ton for
550 g/l. The price of white pepper is currently at 9,700 USD/ton.
In summary, the pepper price forecast for May 8, 2025 shows that the
market may undergo a slight adjustment period, but will remain stable
thanks to market demand and limited supply. All details will be updated
early tomorrow morning on baoquangnam.vn.
A
green spice from Vietnam has seen its export price skyrocket by 1,306%,
now nearly four times more expensive than black pepper - the crop often
referred to as "black gold."
According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of
Customs, by the end of April 2025, Vietnam had exported 73,647 tons of
pepper, generating $508 million in revenue. While export volume
decreased by 11.3% year-over-year, the export value jumped by 44.4%.
The average export price of pepper - widely considered Vietnam’s
“black gold” - reached $6,893 per ton, marking a 62.5% increase compared
to the same period in 2024. Pepper is currently one of the two
agricultural products with the highest export price growth in the first
four months of this year.
As of the end of March 2025, black pepper accounted for 64% of total
export volume and 61.4% of total value, reaching approximately 30,700
tons worth around $194.2 million.
Black pepper export prices also rose sharply, increasing 69.2%
year-over-year to $6,587 per ton. However, this remains the
lowest-priced pepper category in Vietnam's export portfolio.
Ground black pepper ranked second in export value, bringing in $57.6
million. Its average export price rose by 63.2% to $7,128 per ton.
White pepper and ground white pepper fetched even higher export
prices, averaging $7,442 and $8,527 per ton, respectively, ranking third
and fourth in terms of export revenue.
The most striking figure, however, comes from green pepper. Although
Vietnam exported only 0.9 tons of green pepper in the first quarter of
2025, its average export price reached an astonishing $25,420 per ton.
This marks a 1,306% increase compared to the same period last year.
Compared to whole black pepper, green pepper now sells at nearly four
times the price.
In Vietnam, freeze-dried green pepper is not as widely available as black or white pepper.
On e-commerce platforms, green pepper is typically sold in small jars
weighing between 50 and 60 grams, priced from 46,000 to 97,000 VND per
jar - equivalent to roughly $36 to $63 per kilogram.

Indonesia's average pepper export price in the first two months of the year reached 6,317 USD/ton, up 29.8%. Of which,
In
2024, Indonesia ranked third in the world in pepper production, with a
cultivated area of 163 thousand hectares. In addition, Indonesia's
pepper export turnover reached more than 311 million USD, with export
output soaring 105.8% compared to 2023.
Indonesia’s
pepper production in 2024 is expected to grow by around 6% (4,000
tonnes) compared to 2023, reaching 69,000 tonnes. However, it is likely
to decline by 8.7% in 2025 due to investment challenges and unfavorable
weather.
The
global pepper market will continue to face upward price pressure in
2025, amid a forecast of a fourth consecutive year of decline in output.
Global
supplies continue to tighten due to the effects of climate change,
aging crops and farmers shifting to higher-value crops such as coffee and durian. Despite the harvest season in Vietnam, farmers are selling in small batches, helping to keep prices high.
All
major pepper producing countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Sri
Lanka and Brazil have recorded a decrease in production due to climate
impacts, labor shortages and the trend of switching to more profitable crops.

Update pepper information
Despite
the short-term correction, experts and the Vietnam Pepper and Spice
Association (VPSA) remain optimistic about the medium- and long-term
price trend. According to VPSA, the key factor affecting the market
today is not the US tax policy, but the global supply-demand balance,
according to the Financial and Monetary Market Journal.
In
fact, pepper production in many major producing countries is seriously
declining due to the impact of climate change, disease and high input
costs. In Indonesia and India – two major producers in the region – the
2025 crop output is forecast to decrease significantly. This leads to
increasingly tight global supply, especially in the context of pepper
consumption demand in markets such as Europe, the US and the Middle East
remaining at high levels.
At
the same time, the US's 90-day suspension of reciprocal tariffs on
pepper is also considered a positive factor, giving export businesses
more time to adapt, plan to renegotiate contracts and stabilize cash
flow.
In
the context of many producing countries facing difficulties, Vietnam –
as the world’s leading pepper supplier – has a great advantage. Stable
output, continuously improving product quality, combined with a
professional logistics and export system, help Vietnamese enterprises
maintain their position and be able to meet the needs of the most
demanding markets.
However,
to take advantage of the opportunity from the price increase trend,
experts recommend that businesses need to focus more on building brands,
improving deep processing capacity, developing value-added products
such as organic pepper, pre-ground pepper, and especially expanding the
international distribution system.
Although
currently undergoing a short-term adjustment period, with the outlook
for global supply and demand imbalance, pepper prices are likely to
recover in the coming months. The growth in export value, even as output
declines, is a clear testament to the potential and competitive
advantage that the Vietnamese pepper industry holds.
In
the context of the agricultural industry in general facing many
challenges, pepper is still a bright spot if it has a flexible
production and business strategy, grasps market signals well and
continues to consolidate traditional markets in addition to expanding to
new potential markets.
