Pepper Market on May 8, 2025: US imports increase sharply

At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) adjusted the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper down to 7,322 USD/ton, down 0.37% (50 USD/ton) compared to the previous trading session.
Similarly, Malaysian ASTA black pepper price decreased by 1.08% (100 USD/ton) to 9,200 USD/ton.
Meanwhile, the price of Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 remained stable at USD 6,800/ton. Similarly, the price of Vietnamese black pepper continued to move sideways in the range of USD 6,700 - 6,800/ton for 500 g/l and 550 g/l.

At the same time of survey, the price of Indonesian Muntok white pepper decreased by 0.37% (68 USD/ton) compared to the previous trading session, down to 9,917 USD/ton.
Meanwhile, the price of Vietnamese white pepper and Malaysian ASTA white pepper continued to remain stable at 9,700 USD/ton and 11,900 USD/ton.

Update pepper information
According to preliminary data from the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), in April 2025, Vietnam exported 22,605 tons of pepper of all kinds with a turnover of 184.1 million USD, compared to the previous month, the export volume increased by 31.3%, the turnover increased by 30%; and compared to the same period in 2024, it increased by 1.3% in volume and 58.% in value.
Of which, black pepper reached 23,271 tons, white pepper reached 3,319 tons. The average export price of black pepper in April was 6,817 USD/ton, white pepper reached 8,596 USD/ton, up 0.4% for black pepper and down 2.3% for white pepper compared to March.
The US remained the largest export market for Vietnamese pepper in April, reaching 6,404 tons, up 45.9% over the previous month. The following markets were India: 2,525 tons, up 57.6%; UAE: 2,224 tons, up 74.2%; Germany: 1,594 tons, up 3.3%, China: 1,337 tons, up 161.6%...
Phuc Sinh rose to become the leading export enterprise in April, reaching 2,738 tons, up 47.3% compared to March and accounting for 10.3% of the export market share. Next are the enterprises: Olam Vietnam: 2,583 tons, up 18.3%; Tran Chau: 1,819 tons, up 38.1%; Nedspice Vietnam: 1,712 tons, down 13.3% and Haprosimex JSC: 1,496 tons, up 17.8%.
In the first four months of the year, Vietnam exported 74,250 tons of pepper of all kinds, of which black pepper reached 63,124 tons and white pepper reached 11,126 tons. Total export turnover reached 510.6 million USD, black pepper reached 423.2 million USD, white pepper reached 87.4 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2024, the export volume decreased by 10.6%, but the export turnover increased by 45.0%.
Mainly due to the average export price of black pepper in the first 4 months reaching 6,749 USD/ton, up 96.0% and white pepper reaching 8,611 USD/ton, up 73.8% over the same period last year.
Vietnam's leading pepper export markets after the first 4 months of the year include: the US: 16,682 tons, accounting for 22.5% and down 26.7% over the same period. Next are: India: 5,905 tons, accounting for 8.0% of the market share and up 6.4%; UAE: 4,981 tons, accounting for 6.7% of the market share and up 42.2%; Germany: 4,952 tons, accounting for 6.7% of the market share and down 9.7% and China: 3,371 tons, accounting for 4.5% and up 94.4% over the same period.
Exports also increased sharply in Hong Kong, Australia, Poland but decreased in the Netherlands, Russia, UK, Egypt, Türkiye, France.
Top white pepper export markets include: China: 1,557 tons, Germany: 1,481 tons, USA: 1,200 tons.
The leading exporters in the first four months were: Olam Vietnam: 7,692 tons, down 8.0% year-on-year and accounting for 10.4% of the export market share. The following enterprises were: Phuc Sinh: 6,712 tons, up 32.2%; Nedspice: 6,635 tons, down 6.4%; Tran Chau: 4,425 tons, down 27.3% and Haprosimex JSC: 3,976 tons, down 25.2%.
Leading white pepper exporters include: Olam Vietnam: 1,628 tons, Nedspice Vietnam: 1,350 tons and Phuc Sinh.
