IPC PEPPER MKT REPORT No. 24/20, 8 - 12 June 2020






LOCAL MARKET REPORT

Market this week showed mixed response with a rather positive outlook as only Malaysia origin was reported with a decrease. In local market, Malabar black pepper was reported with an increase of 1% as compared to the previous week at an average of USD 4,167 per Mt. Indonesia black pepper was reported with significant increase of 11% as opposed to the previous week averaging at USD 2,134 per Mt. The increase of Indonesia pepper could be contributed to the increase of demand while the stock were limited as well as the strengthening of Indonesian Rupiah against US Dollar (IDR 14,057 @ USD 1), an appreciation by 1% recorded. In local currency, the price of Indonesia black pepper increased to an average of IDR 30,000 per Kg from IDR 27,500 per Kg in previous week. Whilst, Indonesia white pepper was reported stable averaging at USD 3,166 per Mt. Malaysia black pepper was reported stable at an average of USD 1,726 per Mt whilst Malaysia white pepper was reported with slight increase of 1% when compared to the previous week at an average of USD 3,141 per Mt. Furthermore, Viet Nam black and white peppers were reported with an increase of 2% and 3% respectively as compared to the previous week at an average of USD 2,199 per Mt and USD 3,023 per Mt respectively. Sri Lanka black pepper was reported stable and was traded at an average of USD 2,722 per Mt. China white pepper was reported with an increase of 1% as compared to the previous week averaging at USD 4,225 per Mt locally.
INTERNATIONAL MARKET


International market showed a similar trend as the local market. India black pepper was reported with the same 1% increase as compared to the previous week at an average of USD 4,431 per Mt. Continuing the trend of the farm gate price, Indonesia black pepper was reported with significant increase of 10% as compared to the previous week averaging at USD 2,605 per Mt whilst Indonesia white pepper was reported stable at an average of USD 3,761 per Mt. In response to the harvest season, Malaysia black and white pepper were reported with 2% deficit respectively when compared to the previous week averaging at USD 3,601 per Mt for black pepper and USD 5,156 per Mt for white pepper. Furthermore, Viet Nam black pepper 500 g/l was reported stable with slightly increase averaging at USD 2,540 per Mt whilst Viet Nam black pepper 550 g/l and Viet Nam white pepper were reported with an increase of 1% respectively as opposed to the previous week at an average of USD 2,620 per Mt and USD 3,850 per Mt respectively. China white pepper was reported with an increase of 1% as compared to the previous week averaging at USD 4,425 per Mt internationally.

VIETNAM - PEPPER MARKET UPDATE 18TH MAY - WEEK 21

Market opening today firmer and very less offer. Farmers/middleman keep watching and not offer raw material. Good demand coming from USA/EU/ASIA especially from China both black and white pepper. Exporters covering short position so market maybe continue increasing is foreseen.


VIETNAM EXPORTS

Total export turnover in April reached 73.4 million USD (black pepper; 62.8 million USD, white pepper; 10.6 million USD). Compared to the previous month, export volume decreased by 9.3% and turnover decreased by 12.1%.

The average export price of black pepper in April reached 1,898$/ton and white pepper; 3,150$/ton.
China continued imported biggest quantity within in April, reaching 11,416 tons, up 5.8% and around for 31.3% of total export of Vietnam Pepper.

January to April 2020; Vietnam exported 116,764 tons with turnover reached 248.75 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2019, exports quantity increased by 7.8%, but exports - import turnover decreased by 12.1%.

-          Imports of Asia in the first 4 months decreased by 1,254 tons to 64,868 tons but it remained the largest import area of ​​pepper from Vietnam ( 55.2%).

-          China is biggest with total quantity imported from Jan to April reached 26,266 tons (19.8%), down 2,635 tons compare with the same period last year.

-          India is also sharp decrease from 10,102 tons in 4 months of 2019 to 5,978 tons in 4 months of 2020, a decrease of 40.8%.

-          Some other import markets decreased including Iran decreased 736 tons, Arabs decreased 592 tons, Indonesia decreased 236 tons, ...

-          Imports increased sharply in Myanmar, up 3,346 tons to 4,117 tons, Nepal increased 1,500 tons to 3,826 tons, ...

-          USA import increased by 2,622 tons, of which the USA increased 2,144 tons to 19,759 tons (16.8%) and was the second import market of Vietnam Pepper.

-          Europe, the import increased by 2,976 tons to 20,438 tons (17.4%), leading by Germany imported 4,137 tons, up 562 tons. Next is the Netherlands, Russia, England, Turkey, ... Imports dropped the most in Ireland, dropping 1,791 tons to 385 tons.

-          Africa import around 8.9%, increasing 2,986 tons over the same period, leading by Egypt importing 4,932 tons, up 2,141 tons. Followed by Senegal imported 1,506 tons, up 119 tons.

VIETNAM - PEPPER MARKET UPDATE 11TH MAY 2020 – WEEK 20








Within 1 week, pepper raw material increased rapidly by 11% at VND 39,000 on 4/5/2020 jumped to VND 43,500 at the end of last week.
On the Saturday, the price increased by 4% due to huge demand from Chinese trader as well as many exporters cover short position for orders delivered in May. However, on Sunday market sudden correction with softened around 2%.

Market opened today stable, farmers and domestic agents to offer small quantity cautiously and prefer to keep watching. On the contrary to many other pepper exporting countries, Vietnam currency was stronger than USD dollar in the past week when VND index up by 1%.

IPC Pepper Market Report No. 17/20, 20 - 24 April 2020




LOCAL MARKETS
Market this week showed a mixed response with Sri Lanka origin was reported with the highest decrease. In local market, Malabar black pepper was reported stable averaging at USD 4,155 per Mt. Indonesia black and white pepper were reported with an increase of 1% and 2% respectively as opposed to the previous week, averaging at USD 1,604 per Mt for black pepper and USD 2,791 per Mt for white pepper. Malaysia's black and white peppers were reported with 1% deficit respectively when compared to the previous week with an average of USD 1,690 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,032 per Mt for white pepper. Furthermore, Viet Nam black and white pepper were reported with an increase of 2% respectively when compared to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 1,628 per Mt for black pepper and USD 2,431 per Mt for white pepper. Sri Lanka black pepper was reported with 5% deficit as compared to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 2,592 per Mt. China white pepper was reported stable and was traded at an average of USD 4,275 per Mt locally.

INTERNATIONAL MARKET
International market showed a rather positive outlook as Indonesia and Viet Nam origin were reported with an increase. India black pepper was reported stable at an average of USD 4,416 per Mt. Indonesia black and white pepper were reported with an increase of 1% and 2% respectively as compared to the previous week averaging at USD 1,983 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,320per Mt for white pepper. Malaysia black and white pepper continued to be traded stable and unchanged. Furthermore, Viet Nam black pepper 500 g/l, 550 g/l and Viet Nam white pepper were reported with an increase of 2%, 2% and 1% respectively as compared to the previous week averaging at USD 2,130 per Mt, USD 2,160 per Mt and USD 3,060 per Mt respectively. China white pepper was reported steady and was traded at an average of USD 4,475 per Mt internationally.

#BLACKPEPPER -IPC MARKET REPORT

MARKET REPORT

Market this week showed a mixed response with a rather negative outlook as only India origin was reported with an increase. In local market, Malabar black pepper was traded with an increase of 1% as compared to the previous week with an average of USD 4,382 per Mt. Indonesia black and white pepper was reported stable at an average of USD 1,753 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,141 per Mt for white pepper. Malaysian black and white pepper were traded domestically with a 2% and 1% deficit respectively as opposed to the previous week averaging at USD 1,820 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,239 per Mt for white pepper. Furthermore, the ongoing harvest season in Viet Nam pushed Viet Nam black pepper to be traded with a 2% deficit as compared to the previous week at an average of USD 1,597 per Mt. Whilst, Viet Nam white pepper was reported steady with an average of USD 2,410 per Mt. Sri Lanka black pepper was traded with a 1% deficit as compared to the previous week at an average of USD 2, 916 per Mt.
International market followed similar trend in local market as only India recorded an increase. India was reported trading its Malabar black pepper internationally with the same increase of 1% as compared to the previous week at an average of USD 4,662 per Mt. Indonesia black and white pepper were reported stable with an average of USD 2,174 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,740 per Mt for white pepper. Malaysia black and white pepper continued to be traded stable and unchanged. Furthermore, Viet Nam black pepper 500 g/l, 550 g/l and Viet Nam white pepper were reported with a greater loss in international market and were traded with a 7%, 6% and 5% deficit respectively when compared to the previous week at an average of USD 1,900 per Mt, USD 2,000 per Mt and USD 3,000 per Mt respectively. The decrease of FOB price in Viet Nam could be contributed to China demand in recent week was static and it has an impact due to Viet Nam was the biggest supplier for China pepper market.
The Lunar New Year holiday which was followed immediately by the devastating outbreak of the Corona Virus have china market in the past 5 weeks were reported inactive as no business took place. Reports coming in from Hainan stating that people remain in their house and refraining from going out.

Spice purveyor Schiff acquires Golombeck in expansion move

Schiff Foods, a Totowa-based purveyor of whole spices, ground spices and seasonings, announced Wednesday it has acquired Morris J. Golombeck, a Brooklyn-based importer and exporter of high-quality spices and herbs.

Schiff, which was founded in 1949 selling food condiments in Brooklyn, moved to Totowa in 1998 to expand its business to include seeds, herbs, dehydrated vegetables, onion and garlic, seasoning blends, and more. It currently has a 300,000-square-foot warehouse with 30,000 square feet of cold storage dedicated to delicate spices and 15,000 square feet for production.

The combined companies will increase Schiff’s capacity, flexibility and technology, it said.

“The shared values and common goals of Schiff and Golombeck makes this alliance a formidable entity that will anchor our position as a major source for quality spices,” a spokesperson for Schiff Foods said. “The Golombeck team will continue to be an integral part of the Schiff management team, assuring customers that they will continue to enjoy the same personal relationships they have come to expect from an industry leader.”

The main warehouse in Totowa will be expanded and upgraded further to streamline production and distribution, the spokesperson said.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
